Alfred Haas, born in Germany, studied law in Germany before being expelled in the 1930s. He restudied law in English in the United States and later became a partner in the firm Moses and Haas. Because he was German, Jewish, an American citizen and recognized by law in two countries, he became a successful restitution lawyer after World War II.
